The Currency Accepted In The Dubai International Airport

My flight’s stopover will be in the Dubai International Airport where in I have to wait there for 4 hours. Which is why I need to know what type of currency is accepted in the airport.

The unit of currency in Dubai may be the UAE dirham (Dh.) or the Arab Emirate Dirham (AED) as it’s termed in international markets.

The dirham is divided into units of 100 fils. Currency notes are issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 dirhams. Coin denominations are 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 fils and 1 dirham. Nevertheless, coins having a denomination below 25 fils are rarely used.

The value of the dirham has been fixed to the US dollar since 1980 in the rate of USD 1 equal to Dh. 3.67.

US Dollar, Euro, & Pound are accepted along with Dirhams however it differs with respect to the outlet itself. (these currencies will also be acceptable in a number of Dubai shops not only the airport) However if you wish to only get a meal or anything from duty free you are able to just use your credit card , you don’t have to carry change. On top the ATM machines give local money when you want cash from your card.

You may ask the airport crew once you arrive at Dubai international airport in order to make the exchange of the currencies. You could also locate several other passengers ready to exchange currencies along with you. (such as someone who are going to leave Dubai and doesn’t need to have the Dirham change is their pocket).

To use the phone or WiFi you are able to use a card , where the card you can as well make it chargeable to your credit card.

Like most global Airports, the shops do accept the major currencies, which includes the GBP Pounds Sterling and the US Dollar-Items will be priced in both foreign (usually US$)and local currencies ie. the UAE Dirham.

I am also sure your cards can be accepted by most from the shops in the Airport as well.

your last bet will be to use the foreign exchange bureau at the airport. You can decide to change for some US dollars before you leave, that is if you can get some competitive rates, else just keep your pounds sterling as you are likely to be able to use.

Banking open 24 hours the currency exchanges are located near Gates 8, 18 and 22.
